Enger Tower in Duluth

Duluth, MN
Story by J.J. J

In 1967 at 17, I married the love of my life. We were as close as two young people could be. We defied our families, and married.
Life would be perfect us, in the short term. Two weeks and 6 days later, her brand new Plymouth Barracuda hit a bridge, and she died .
As a young guy, I didn’t know how to survive the pain.
We had gone to Duluth a few times because it somehow made us feel closer as a married couple. After I laid her to rest, I was lost as a human being.
I headed to the one place I felt close to her , Enger Tower above Duluth. I spent days there hoping she’d climb the tower, to be with me. Of course, I knew she wouldn’t ever be near me again. It still made me feel a connection to my beautiful young wife.
60 years later, I’m alive and happy. And every day, I think about her, knowing she’s in a better place.
I’ll always love her in my own way.
