Heritage is the biggest factor why Blue Mound Lutheran Church means so much to me. My great-grandfather was one of the men who organized the church in 1872 and helped build the church in 1876. My grandfather was a teenager when the Young People’s Society raised money in 1895 for a pump organ which was brought down from St. Paul in a horse-drawn wagon. My parents were part of a group that organized the Blue Mound Cemetery Association which today takes care of the church and cemetery property. Those ladies in the 1950s raised money by selling cubed beef suppers for 25 cents a plate out of the nursery in the church. These monies helped to pay for someone to mow the whole church and cemetery as before everyone took care of their own family plots. Since I was baptized and confirmed at Blue Mound, the people there taught me about faith, kindness, hard work, and a respect for the history of Blue Mound Lutheran Church and how important it was to have a church to worship in that had been created by our immigrant forefathers.
